This Hyderabadi delicacy is a bread pudding made from bread, ghee, sugar, spices, and nuts. It is a dessert that is also known as Shahi Tukda. Since it uses ingredients like condensed milk, bread, ghee and sugar, it is not exactly the diabetic sweet one would like to include in their diabetes diet chart.
Double ka meetha is a heavy dessert that is high in calories and low in fiber. Since it contains ghee, the fat content is also high. This makes it a bad sweet for diabetics as it has high glycemic index. Moreover, this sweet is made by deep frying slices of bread increasing the fat content in it further.
However, one can make a healthier version of this heavy dessert by opting for multigrain bread and jaggery. Having said that, jaggery also has a very high glycemic index and so is not a recommended diabetic sweet.
