Here’s an easy, step by step Ragi Roti recipe which makes a healthy replacement for your parathas or tea time fried snacks. You can serve it with homemade chutney, your favourite dal or raita of your choice.
INGREDIENTS :
Serving Size: 1 ragi roti – 94 calories
- 1 cup – ragi flour
- 1 – small onion, chopped
- 1 – green chilli, chopped
- 1 tsp. – grated coconut or 2 tbsp. carrots (optional)
- ¼ tsp. – cumin
- A bunch of coriander leaves, chopped
- Salt as per taste
- Water as needed
METHOD :
- In a big mixing bowl, add in all the ingredients
- Mix everything thoroughly before adding water
- Add water little by little as needed and knead out a soft dough, diving the dough in about 4-5 balls
- To start making your roti, either use a damn cloth, greased foil, or a cool pan directly
- Begin by placing the ball of dough on a cool pan or foil and with the help of your fingers, spread it out into a round roti like shape (you can use some oil or water on your fingers in case the dough does not spread out easily)
- Your roti’s need not be perfectly round or too thin, they can be normal and not too thick either
- Now, lightly grease the tawa (you can spray some cooking oil too) and let it heat on the stove for 5 good minutes
- Place your roti and let it cook well on either sides, flip on the other side when necessary but not too soon
- Cover your roti and cook for a few minutes till you see it rise well
- If you used a foil or pan to make the roti and place it on the tawa, you might need another foil or pan to prepare the next roti, or you should wait till the same pan cools down for sometime
- Avoid making roti’s on extreme hot tawas as it tends to stick and won’t spread out
- You can use some cooking oil spray whenever needed when you are preparing to spread out the next roti
Healthy ragi roti’s are now ready to be served!
