Amyotrophy:

It is a progressive process of muscular and tissue wasting. It results in weakness and pain, and commonly involves the deltoid muscles, shoulders, pelvic girdle, and thighs. People with diabetes have a nerve disorder leading to a condition called diabetic amyotrophy. It is a complication of diabetes affecting the hips, buttocks, thighs, and legs. It causes muscle wasting and pain (sometimes severe) along with weakness, altered sensation, and tingling sensation. This condition might take months and years to develop and is caused due to abnormalities in the immune system and damage to tiny blood vessels. It is diagnosed with a lumbar puncture or a nerve conduction study. It is treated with nerve painkillers and physiotherapy.
