Biliverdin:

Biliverdin:

Biliverdin, a bile pigment, is produced as a product of catabolism (an aspect of metabolism). Biliverdin is produced during the breaking up of the red blood cells (heme components). It is also the green color that is seen on the skin after bruises. Biliverdin along with bilirubin have antioxidant properties and eliminate many free radicals. However, higher levels of Biliverdin is indicative of diseases like jaundice, and other liver diseases. This is often seen in the urine with its distinct green color. In other cases like people with diabetes, Biliverdin and bilirubin are known to reduce the risk of diabetes complications.
