Betamethasone:
Betamethasone is a topical steroidal medication given to the skin. It is a corticosteroid that can be taken as an injection, cream, spray, or even a pill. It is given to treat conditions like eczema, itching, dryness, redness, inflammation, and many other skin conditions like psoriasis and dermatitis. It is also given to rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatoid disorders, and allergic conditions. In other forms, it can be injected to muscles. For topical usage, the area should be washed and the cream or spray should be applied while the area is still moist. Some people might be allergic to betamethasone and it can have side effects with some other drugs. So, it is better to inform the doctor about any allergic reaction. Side effects of topical betamethasone include burning, and itching sensation, redness, cracking of the skin, and in some cases, wheezing, severe rashes, and skin infections. Side effects of oral betamethasone include rapid weight gain, vision problems, and shortness of breath, depression, blood in cough, seizures, and high blood pressure. Some minor side effects include sleep problems, acne, headache, change in skin color, and increased sweating. The usage of betamethasone is known to increase the blood glucose levels and cause hyperglycemia in people with gestational diabetes, type 2 diabetes and type 1 diabetes.
