Acetone:
Acetone is an organic compound and a solvent. Acetone is one of the ketones that is responsible for diabetic ketoacidosis (See: Ketoacidosis). It is produced by the liver and the fatty acids during fasting, low carbohydrate intake, prolonged exercise and unmanaged type 1 diabetes. These are released into the bloodstream and urine. Release of ketones into the urinary stream is called ketonuria. This leads to ketosis (raised levels of ketones in the body) and ultimately, ketoacidosis.
