Acetoacetate:
Acetoacetate is an organic compound and one of the three water-soluble ketones that is produced by the liver and the fatty acids when there is lack of blood glucose. This occurs during fasting, low carbohydrate diet, and intense exercise. Though the heart and brain can use these ketones as energy, excess of these ketones can lead to ketoacidosis in people with diabetes.
