Ms. Sangita Reddy, Jt. MD, Apollo Hospitals Group & Chairperson, Apollo Sugar Clinics Ltd.
We at Apollo Sugar Clinics envision a future where every person with diabetes has accessibility to quality healthcare. – Ms. Sangita Reddy.
It is painful for a nation to see its able-bodied fall prey to non-communicable diseases. The pain is disturbingly enhanced if one is in the healthcare industry being a witness to this every day. This was exactly the case with Ms. Sangita Reddy.
Having been in the healthcare industry from 1983, taking her father’s vision of providing quality healthcare ahead, Ms. Sangita Reddy had over the years been working toward improving infrastructure, and the highly skilled manpower that was needed to provide a patient-centric care.
She had been instrumental in numerous transformations in the Apollo Hospitals Group ecosystem including the adoption of technology-based healthcare solutions, which was a much needed initiative in the Indian context.
She brought about the iOT-enabled health delivery systems, eHealth initiatives, mobile health systems, and was responsible for winning many awards like HiMSS-Elsevier ICT achievement award.
Despite having won many accolades as an entrepreneur and a leader, her concern for the quality of care given for non-communicable diseases, especially diabetes, had got her thinking. That was when the concept of Apollo Sugar Clinics was born.
Ms. Sangita Reddy came up with an innovative model that weds clinical expertise and digital technology in order to provide avant garde diabetes care.
Apollo Sugar Clinics had set up dedicated clinics with highly experienced doctors, diabetes educators, and clinical nutritionists all over the country. This was the in-clinic diabetes solution. With the use of its proprietary connected glucometers, mobile apps, home-care kits, and other technology-based solutions, Apollo Sugar Clinics had brought diabetes care to people’s homes.

Gagan Bhalla, Chief Executive Officer, Apollo Sugar Clinics
The future of healthcare is in the right balance of research, expertise, technology, and empathy. – Mr. Gagan Bhalla
Having been in the healthcare industry for over 20 years, Mr. Gagan Bhalla is well aware of a person’s journey in a healthcare setup. Over the years, he has been tirelessly working toward improving this journey to make it more patient-centric.
Diabetes is a chronic condition that needs lifelong management as uncontrolled and undetected diabetes leads to heart, kidney, eye, and foot complications that end up in unnecessary deaths.
Unfortunately in India, there are more than 100 million people affected by diabetes and prediabetes, and most of them are not even aware of their condition. This has led to rampant prevalence of uncontrolled diabetes causing hospitalizations due to serious diabetes complications. Undetected and uncontrolled diabetes is a silent assassin and a precursor to many other acute diseases.
To improve the quality of care and to make this quality care more accessible is the vision and mission of Mr. Gagan Bhalla. The passion and panache he has breathed into Apollo Sugar Clinics has made it possible to invigorate the entire unit to serve people with diabetes. His belief of a good balance of expertise, skilled manpower, and technology has worked wonders for Apollo Sugar Clinics.
While managing a chain of clinics delivering world class diabetes care all over the country, Mr. Gagan Bhalla had ensured that every clinic has the best Endocrinologist, Diabetologist, trained specialist staff, diabetes counsellors, and diabetes educators.
All these centers were integrated to the main center in Hyderabad in order to facilitate electronic medical records, and call center support systems for both in-bound and outbound calls.
As an alumni of IIT Mumbai, he believes that technology can go places where human presence is physically not possible, and he had ensured that Apollo Sugar Clinics adopted the technology mode to serve patients beyond the clinic.
In order to do this, he had personally supervised the implementation of Apollo Sugar Clinics’ proprietary connected glucometer, Apollo Sugar app, home-care kit, and other technology-based solutions to track patient health parameters. He had ensured that every person with diabetes in the Apollo Sugar Clinics ecosystem gets assured diabetes care and assured outcomes so that they are free from heart, kidney, eye, and foot complications.
He is an expert in creating new and successful healthcare businesses, and business leaders, and improving existing businesses.
