Arteriosclerosis:

Arteriosclerosis:

Arteriosclerosis is a condition in which the walls of the arteries thicken. It leads to a loss of elasticity and improper blood flow. It progresses to other complications like atherosclerosis which in turn leads to coronary artery disease, heart attack, and stroke. Arteriosclerosis affects the small arteries, and arterioles that carry nutrients to the tissues and cells. It leads to stiffening of the arterial walls, and degeneration. It is diagnosed by physical examination, EKG, blood tests, and other diagnostics. Treatment for arteriosclerosis includes cholesterol medications, anti-coagulants, and hypertension medications. Also, lifestyle modifications like smoking cessation and physical activity are advised.
