Ultrasound scans use high frequency sound waves to capture images. Abdominal ultrasounds are used to visualize organs and structures in detail inside the abdomen.

Abdominal ultrasounds are used to check the major organs in the abdominal cavity. These organs include your gallbladder, kidneys, liver, pancreas, and spleen.

       Abdominal ultrasound scans are performed to rule out:

  • Abdominal aortic aneurysms
  • Blood clots
  • Enlarged organs (such as liver, spleen, or kidneys)
  • Fluid in the abdominal cavity
  • Gallstones
  • Pancreatitis
  • Kidney blockage or cancer
  • Kidney stones
